1. What is the link import utility and how does it work?

The link import utility is a web-based utility that is provided for you to import existing links from your old links pages into your LinksManager account. LinksManager will retrieve links from any page on the web and display them on a results screen where you then can decide which links to import and how to categorize each link.

Link Import Tips:
If you are importing more than 500 links and you have a slow connection to the net, OR if your computer has little available memory, this process can time out and or fail altogether. Therefore, do not attempt to import more than 1000 links into your account at any time.

If you have a page that has more than 1000 links on it, we suggest that you copy and paste groups of 1000 links at a time into temporary pages for importing. 1000 or less links at a time will insure a clean and quick import.

2. Why do all links that I import have an N/A reciprocation status?

Links imported or added through Quick Add are assigned an N/A (not applicable) so that the links are not checked for reciprocation. This is done to avoid spidering sites to check for link reciprocation who have not intiated a link swap with you.

We recommend only importing links into your LinksManager account that you already have a link swap agreement with, such as links from your previous links page.

You may set a specific link to be checked for reciprocation, click on Modify or Delete Active Links from your Control Panel. Click on the name of the link that you would like to edit. Once the link details screen displays, under the "Reciprocating?" section, you will see a link to turn on link reciprocation checking for this link. After clicking this, the link is now set to be check for reciprocation.

3. Can I import links from any web site?

Yes - LinksManager will import links from practically any URL you provide.

Since each website is created differently, we suggest you review all links after the import tool has shown you the links it found and before you finally click the "Import Links" button.

The link import utility is trained to search for text hyperlinks, so it is possible it might grab text that is not intended. If the URL you are importing links from has navigation controls as text links, the import will probably contain those links.

4. Can I import links that are banner graphics?

5. Does LinksManager import contact email addresses with links that I import from other web sites?

LinksManager does not import contact email addresses due to our security and anti-spam policies.

Webmasters email addresses have to be entered manually for every link that has been imported. This prevents sending sensitive or private information to incorrect email addresses. By entering email addresses manually, you can be sure that you are contacting the correct person associated with every link on your site.

6. How do I create and send passwords to webmasters associated with the links that I import from my old links page?

LinksManager automatically creates a temporary password for every link you import or add via the QuickAdd form. LinksManager does not import the associated webmasters email address with every imported link due to security and antispam reasons.

LinksManager leaves the email address field blank allowing you to enter a webmaster's email address for each imported link. You do this by first going to the website you imported and locate the contact email address for the webmaster. Copy the email address into memory or onto clipboard or a notepad, then go to Modify Delete Current Links from your control panel, locate the links after you have added or imported it click it to see the details. Add the email address in the email address box. Save the changes, then scroll to the bottom of the link details where you will find a link that says "Click here to send this webmaster his password." When you click this, LinksManager will send an email that informs the webmaster of his temporary password needed to modify his or her link. The temporary password is something you never see, it is generated by LinksManager automatically.

You can test this function by importing any link to your account (it can be a test that you delete later). Add YOUR email address to the imported link and click the "Send webmaster his password" link at the bottom of the link details page. You will receive the email with temporary password and location where you can modify the link in the future.
