1. What are link categories? What do they do?

Imagine visiting a supermarket where none of the aisles are labeled with what they contained and all of the products are randomly placed about the store. How would you find the Ketchup? Where do you look for the Coffee? This problem presents itself on many websites and link directories on the net today. LinksManager solves this problem through the use of link categorication.

Link categories subdivide the links that you collect into related groups making it easy for visitors to navigate your links pages and easily locate sites of interest.

Link categories can be displayed on a page that LinksManager generates called your links menu page. Your links menu page lists all of your link categories. Each link category then hyperlinks to a link page that display all websites included within that specific category.

Categorization provides an organized way of grouping links together based on any criteria that you might choose. Categorized links pages give you more flexibility, are easier to manage, and make navigation and information searches much easier for your users. Users looking for specific information, a specific website, or a specific topic will be able to find it easily. Any categorization that you specify is not permanent. You can create, modify, and delete categories at any time.

3. Is there any limit to the number or "depth" of subcategories that I can add within a category?

No. There is no limit to the depth of subcategories you can have. Subcategories allow you to subdivide a very general link category into smaller, more specific groups of links making your links pages more organized and easier to navigate.

4. I can only think of two link categories for my links pages. What other link categories should I consider?

Think about what kind of websites would your own website visitors be interested in, and then create categories to hold those links. Consider categories that are related to your website's focus. For example, if your website sells car parts, consider adding categories so you can swap links with sites that focus on maps, travel by auto, car audio, antique cars, recreational vehicles, auto photography, toy cars, and gifts. Get creative and remember, the more variety of link categories you have, the greater number of sites you can swap links with.

LinksManager does not encourage you to create a category for every genre and topic you can think of. Recent research indicates that links from other websites that are similar to yours in terms of content and genre prove to be best for your site in terms of usefulness to your customers. Sites that have exit links to similar minded sites tend to receive better link popularity rankings in the search engines. Click here for sample link categories

6. I have alot of categories. Can the webmaster specify the category to suggest a link to from a specific categorized link page?

Yes. In instances where you have alot of link categories, it would be time consuming for the webmaster requesting a link with you to have to scroll through a long list of categories on your add link form.

A solution is available that allows the webmaster to click a dynamic hyperlink from your link category page specifying that category for a link request.

To implement this solution, add this code to the Links Page Controls > Top Text cosmetic control:

<a href="http://www.linksmanager.com/cgi-bin/add_link.cgi?userid=%%userid%%&cat
id=%%category_num%%"> Submit your Link to this Category.

This link would automatically let your add link form know that the link was submitted to your account (userid) and the specific category which is being browsed (category_num).

If you need help implementing this solution, feel free to request help by clicking REQUEST SUPPORT from within your account.
