1. What is Deep Linking? Can you show examples of Deep Linking?

Deep linking generally means to link to pages on a website other than the homepage. Deep linking should mirror what most benefits the end user.

LinksManager's deep linking feature allows you to specify what URL you want webmasters to link to based on the category the webmaster specifies when requesting a link from your add link page.

Example 1)

Bob's Sports Book visits GamblingLinks.com. Bob submits his link request to Gamblinglinks.Com's Sports Wagering category.

GamblingLinks.com has set their LinksManager account to request a deep link to a recent article http://www.gamblinglinks.com/online-sports-betting-a-sure-thing.html anytime someone requests a link from the sports wagering category.

Gamblinglinks.com's LinksManager.com powered Add_link process requests that Bob reciprocate to the article: http://www.gamblinglinks.com/online-sports-betting-a-sure-thing.html

Example 2)

Your site sells auto parts and you have a category in your links pages called "Auto Recall Information". You also publish an article related to a specific auto part that been recalled.

Another site that publishes information related to auto recalls sees the article on your site and requests a reciprocal link. This is where a deep link is very useful.

The LinksManager user who sells auto parts could then update his "Auto Recall Information" category's 'Suggested Deep Link' information to request a reciprocal link directly to the Auto Recall Article's URL from the other webmaster's
links page.

In both examples, the suggested deep link URL specified in the category editor will be displayed on your 'Site Successfully Submitted' page (and appropriate emails) after a webmaster submits a link request to that specific category.

Please keep your deep link URL's specified in your category editor RELEVANT to the information published on your site.

Sites that are reported as abusing this feature are subject to account termination without notice. Please contact the Helpdesk if you have any questions regarding proper use of the Deep Linking feature.

3. How do I begin using the Deep Linking Feature?

  1. Visit your Set Link Preferences control panel, scroll down to the Deep Linking controls, enable Deep Linking and click on Save Changes.

  2. Visit your Add/Modify/Delete Categories controls.

  3. For each category in your account that you would like Deep Linking to be enabled, click on the category name. Once the category editor opens, scroll to the Suggested Deep-Link URL input box. Fill in all three Deep Linking related controls. These include:

    • Suggested Deep-Link URL - The url that you want the other webmaster to link back to your site with.

    • Suggested Deep-Link Link Text - The achor text that you want the other webmaster to use for the link back to your site.

    • Suggested Deep-Link Link Description - The description that you want the other webmaster to use for the link back to your site.

Once you are finished, scroll down to the bottom of your category list and click on the Modify or Delete Categories button.

Once you have enabled Deep Linking and edited the Deep Linking controls for ALL categories that you would like this feature to be applied to, webmasters who submit their link to you through your add links page will be presented with instructions on how to reciprocate your link using the Deep Link URL associated with the category that THEIR link will display in on YOUR links pages.

NOTE: Categories that do not have custom deep link URLs assigned in your Add/Modify/Delete Categories controls will use the URL assigned to your LinksManager as the location for webmasters to reciprocate.

4. Do links submitted to a subcategory use the deep link information from it's top level category?

Not at this time. Each category/subcategory needs its own Deep Linking information. If you want subcategories of a main category to use the same information for Deep Linking, then you would need to copy the Deep Linking information from the main category into each subcategory's Deep Linking Controls.
